As you're starting out I wouldn't recommend trying to downshift clutchlessly as the result of getting it wrong, other than putting excessive strain on the bikes mechanical parts, is the rear tyre locking (as suggested by tyre chirping or sudden loss of traction) as the revs were not matched properly. This can even happen when you are downshifting using the clutch and have not blipped the revs enough.

On a CBR250 there is not enough compression to lock the wheel when shifting down. I've slammed down 2-3 gears at a time at the track and it wouldn't even chirp, even with the front brakes on hard.

While its good to practice throttle blipping there is really no need to do it on a 250.

I'm not too sure about that... I guess it depends on the type of road and weight of rider and compression of engine. I'm fairly light 70kgs n if slam down the gears without blippin the throttle, the rear will lock up and chirp.. and yes, even with a new rear tyre. This could be due to the engine being rebuilt only 10 000ks ago or my weight... so in my experience, blip the throttle when changin down...n besides, gotta love the sound of bike being blipped when the rider is downchangin

Read the main topic related to this post
Sun Nov 30, 2008 9:56 pm http://www.cbr250rr.com.au/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=313#p1687 New Rider http://www.cbr250rr.com.au/forums/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=318#p1682
by Bikerwog (Posted Fri Nov 28, 2008 9:40 am)

Welcome mate, another cbr250 site for you to sign up with is http://www.cbr250.com

Read the main topic related to this post
Fri Nov 28, 2008 9:40 am http://www.cbr250rr.com.au/forums/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=318#p1682 Low compression cylinder 2 http://www.cbr250rr.com.au/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=317#p1680
by trangandrew (Posted Thu Nov 27, 2008 8:49 am)

Hey guys,

I did a compression test on a bike I was looking at buying and the guys at Bills did a compression test which revealed cylinder 2 to be running at about 75psi. The guys also did a preinspection check and took it out for a ride and all and found it to be running well and didn't blow any smoke. They suspected it may be a tight valve and unlikely to be burnt oil rings etc. What are your thoughts on this? Sure enough the idiot jumped on the brakes very late... I started rolling forward while watching in my mirror to see whether I would have to shoot through or not (which would have been difficult seeing there was a car right in front of me moving through their green light).

Eventually this guy screeches to a halt positioned where I was 2 seconds ago, I had moved several meters forward to get out of the way. So kids remember - intersections suck - always be ready to move (don't sit in neutral without some car padding around you). Lesson learned, next time i'll go through the just-red light.

Read the main topic related to this post
Thu Nov 13, 2008 2:16 pm http://www.cbr250rr.com.au/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=306#p1644 Top Speed http://www.cbr250rr.com.au/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=268#p1641
by Weaver (Posted Wed Nov 12, 2008 9:25 am)

Well I know the bike will run fine without the speedo cable there at all.
