Changing a Battery on a Honda CBR250RR

Specification

CBR250RR Battery specification Yuasa Yumicron YTLBX7

This battery is made in Japan, and contains a more dense lead plate arrangement than a standard equivalent. Being a lead-acid battery care must be taken, as it contains hazardous substances. Sulphuric acid will burn clothing and skin very rapidly. Always wear protective clothing and eyewear when handling hazardous materials. Genuine Honda Battery is a rebranded Yuasa Yumicron YTLBX7. Expect to pay double for genuine part.

You should use the YTLBX7 battery in preference to others, as it is a maintenance free battery and is 'sealed' (once the acid is in the battery) which prevents battery leakage.

the YTLBX7 is rated at 7aH, but in real world terms is closer to about 9.

Removal

Removing the Battery is a straightforward process.

tool required is a No2 Phillips Head Screwdriver, like the one in the factory toolbelt.

Underneath the back corners of the seat, are two (2) Phillips screws. Remove them to expose the ECM, main fuse and battery.

Remove the protective cover from the +ve terminal by sliding it back along the wire a little.

Unscrew the lead form the terminal and move to the side.

Remove the -ve lead from the terminal in the same way.

There is a rubber strap holding the battery in the tray, which now must be removed. Slide the rubber 'band' towards the front of the bike, which will allow you to push the metal clip down past the hook on the front of the holder.

Take care when removing the battery, as it may have leaked acid.

Make sure the area is thoroughly clean from acid. If there has been a leak, rinse well with water, and a mild soapy solution to clean the battery tray out after rinsing. Dry thoroughly.

Replacement

Replacement is the reverse process from removal.
